Silicon Carbide – Black

Grains and Powders

Silicon Carbide-Black is ideally used for a wide range of applications. These include vitrified and resinoid grinding wheels, friction, blasting, compounds, lapping, polishing, non-slip, wire sawing silicon and quartz and many more uses.

Bayville’s Silicon Carbide-Black powder contains some free silicon (Si) and carbon (C) and is not as pure as green SiC. Black Silicon Carbide is an extremely hard (Mohs 9.1 / Knoop 2550) man-made mineral that possesses high thermal conductivity and high strength at elevated temperatures. At 1000oC Black Silicon Carbide is 7.5 times stronger than Alumina. Silicon Carbide-Black has a modulus of elasticity of 410 GPa, with no decrease in strength up to 1600oC. It does not melt at normal pressures but instead dissociates at 2600oC.
